Given that thrusters are a mashup of two of my favorite movements – front squat and push press – I should really like them. But, it’s not to be. I’ve made it clear plenty of times before that I have no love for thrusters. I’ve tried to feel compassion for the oft-hated thruster, but to no avail. They remain dead to me… even when I enjoy a big thruster triumph like this one.

As I’ve said many times, I have no love for thrusters. I do, however, have a thing for sprint-y workouts going on right now, and I was eager to jump into the WOD this morning… despite a terrible night of tossing and turning on my busted-ass shoulder. Happily, doing stuff straight overhead doesn’t irritate my slanty-in-the-socket humerus; it was so ON.

Last night, I woke up to visit the bathroom around 12:30 a.m., and as I staggered back to bed, trying to keep my eyes closed, chanting to myself, You’re still asleep. You’re not awake. Don’t wake up. You’re still asleep, Dave held out his iPhone and said, “Our workout tomorrow is Fran.”

Last Wednesday, I told y’all how I kinda cheated myself out of a 65# thruster – and I vowed that next time, I wouldn’t let my preconceived notions of what I can do get in my way.
This morning, I had to walk the walk… or, more accurately, thrust the thruster.

I simultaneously had a great workout and a lame workout this morning. I sort of underestimated myself and cheated myself, albeit unintentionally. But like a cast-iron skillet to the back of the head, it caught my attention and makes me wonder: how often am I doing that? And how can I make sure I don’t do it again?
