Even when I did it all the time, I never became a very fast runner. But man! I loved running. Even when I hated running, I loved running.
Just the shoes, the trail, some music, the rhythm of my breathing, and that feeling of being free. You can’t catch me! La la la…
I used to play games on the trail around the lake. I’d pick someone up ahead and see if I could pass them. Or I’d...

I met Kerry and Joey of Kippin’ It Paleo a few weeks ago at my Whole Foods book event. We got acquainted while chit-chatting about the annoyance of elimination diets and the joy of cooking paleo food that blots out all thoughts of deprivation. In addition to be being cooks, CrossFitters, and generally nice people, Kerry and Joey are also go-getters.
I love go-getters!
Their goal is to launch a paleo...

And just like that — BAM! — it’s the Christmas season. Time to shake off the turkey hangover, put away the pumpkin, and start thinking about holiday cookies. Or maybe that’s just me.
But in case that’s you, too, I’ve got a treat for you: a stupid-simple, very delicious cookie recipe from the ebook Christmas Dessert Freedom by Leanne Vogel of Healthful Pursuit.

As you know, instead of a dog that loves us unconditionally and wants nothing more than to snuggle up with us and please us at every turn, we have a cat.
A CEO cat. A cat who is selfish with her love. A cat that, more often than not, looks at me with disdain. Like this:
To fill the hole in my soul left by the self-centered feline that allows us to live in her house, I devour the dog-related posts on...

This Thanksgiving, I’ll be starting the day with meditation, then watching the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. It’s all about balance, people. Then later in the day – between eating and going to a movie — Dave and I have a date to toss a Nerf football around in preparation for the Ravens v. Steelers on Thursday night. (Go Ravens!).
If you’re hanging around your house or...

It’s well known amongst my family and friends that at the Thanksgiving table, I am the champion of constructing the Perfect Bite. You know what I mean, right?! That’s when you spear a piece of bird, add a hunk of (paleo) bread stuffing*, dunk it in the little gravy puddle on your plate, and top it off with a dollop of tart cranberry sauce.
The recipe below is the cranberry sauce...

It’s been a month since the release of Well Fed 2: More Paleo Recipes For People Who Love To Eat, and thanks to all of you, we’ve had several exciting reasons to celebrate. Our first print run of 20,000 sold out within two weeks (which just about gave Dave, who is in charge of inventory, a heart attack). During the week of October 26, our book appeared on the Washington Post‘s Best...

I’ve told you about my sweet (funny, gorgeous) friend Hilah before — like that time we made Vampire Fighting Pork Stew together. In addition to being a talented cook, musician, internet cooking superstar, and cookbook author, Hilah is also an actress. Enjoy this funny look at Thanksgiving gone wrong!
As much as I love Thanksgiving, whenever we celebrate at someone else’s house, I secretly...

Big hugs of thanks to blog reader Michelle L. (and her awesome husband) for directing me to this video. Enjoy!
For the record, right now, I have books scattered throughout the house that I’m reading: a funny little Hungarian cookbook I got for $3 at Goodwill sits next to the tub for browsing during an epsom soak… an equally charming Bulgarian cookbook waits on the counter in the kitchen for...

Get Fuzzy by Darby Conley is my favorite comic strip of all time. Bucky, the naughty cat, has been on a kick lately to become a spiritual guru, and he’s been experimenting on/torturing the sweet-but-kinda-dim dog Satchel. I can totally relate to the question in today’s installment:
You can get more Get Fuzzy at GoComics.com. (There’s also this...

When last we left the riveting story of my ongoing adventures in functional medicine, it was August, and I’d just been to my first appointment with Dr. Amy Myers and Brianne Williams. To recap, in case you don’t want to revisit the whole post, I’d had blood, urine, and stool samples submitted to have just about every test imaginable done. Science!
I decided to see Dr. Myers because of my...
