Come out and play with me!
On Wednesday, September 4, I’m teaching a cooking demonstration class at Whole Foods Culinary Center. That means I cook (a little) and you eat. YAY!
The menu will feature six recipes from Well Fed 2: More Paleo Recipes For People Who Love To Eat – plus I’ll give everyone a look inside the pages of Well Fed 2. I’m super excited for someone other than Dave,...

I am definitely on Team Picard in the Kirk vs. Picard debate, and I’m in the midst of a “re-watch ever episode of Start Trek: The Next Generation” phase. NERD ALERT!
Things to know about Patrick Stewart:
1. This is his fiancé.
2. Sir Ian McKellan will officiate at their wedding.
3. You can follow P. Stewart on Twitter.
4. He made this...

This song is stuck in my head, so now it must be stuck in yours. You might want to enjoy it while you read this blog post.
Yesterday was my first appointment with Dr. Amy Myers at Austin UltraHealth to try to find the answers to my on-going health-related challenges. I’m mostly healthy, I think, but still not feeling like a superhero (physically or mentally) and my blood...

Dave, Smudge, and I are in the last five days of production on Well Fed 2. We have to eat our meals on the kitchen island or on the couch in front of the TV (so bad! so bad! so bad!) because we’ve temporarily moved our workspace from our separate studio offices to inside our house. The dining room table is unrecognizable under the laptops, digital drawing pad, iPhone cables, stacks of printouts,...

As I mentioned in this post from back in May, I ate a lot (A LOT!) of the skinless Balkan sausages called ćevapčići while we journeyed through Slovenia, Croatia, and Bosnia-Herzegovina. The ćevapčići were a really tasty way to get a protein infusion to balance the wine, beer, and kremšnita (ahem) that I was enjoying in a regular basis.
Throughout our travels, I ate ćevapčići about 8 times, and...

On our travels in May and June, we ate this red pepper+eggplant condiment in almost every restaurant from Lubljana, Slovenia to Dubrovnik, Croatia. Each chef’s version was different, ranging from spicy to sweet and varying the ratio of red pepper to eggplant. All of them were tangy and luxurious.
When I got home, I started working on my own version, and I think this one is The Keeper. It combines...

The first time I had a bowl cut, with John Taylor of Duran Duran, circa 1993
I’ve been thinking about chopping off my hair for a few months. The motivations were many: I’m craving change and new adventures. When I was in my twenties and thirties, I had short hair, so I associate cropped cuts with being youthful and daring. There was this photo of Madonna and the way I’ve been listening to...

My day is not peachy. In fact, my day is going downright terribly just now.
The only response is to share a recipe with you in the hopes it will make your day a little sweeter.
This recipe for Peach Almond Crisp is from my cookbook Well Fed: Paleo Recipes For People Who Love To Eat, and it was the winner of the Paleo Magazine award for Best Treat Recipe in 2012. Plus, it’s super yummy. Enjoy!

Every summer, I load up on “make-you-crazy-when-they-get-stuck-in-your-head” pop songs and build a playlist for the long stretches of 100+ degrees. This year, it includes “Alive” by Empire of the Sun, “Don’t Stop The Party” from Pitbull, and “Remix (I Like The)” by New Kids On The Block. (For the record, I was never a NKOTB fan; I just like this song.)....

Last week, Dave faced what might have been his biggest photography challenge to date: He had to photograph a whole fish for one of the Well Fed 2 divider pages.
For most photographers, once they’d figured out the technical details, it wouldn’t be a big deal. But Dave isn’t most photographers. For starters, he’s more awesome than the average person. And secondly, he’s allergic...

If I’m honest, the paleo cookbook that I’m most excited about these days is Well Fed 2 (available on October 22. WOOT!) — but a slew of other paleo cooks recently released recipe collections that are definitely worth mentioning.
What follows are not reviews of these books. I have not read them cover to cover, nor am I providing a concise overview of their merits and foibles. I’m sorry!...
