Whole30: Day 15 Recap

Whole30: Day 15

Jude is here! And she’s even more sassy and lovely in person than she is in her captivating blog. We barely stopped to take a breath while we chatted about all the things we missed by being only online friends so far.

Also: CONGRATULATIONS! to everyone doing the Whole30. You’re halfway! Great job! Keep it up! You can do it! Your’re awesome!

Sleep
8.5 hours — 10:00 to 6:30. (I forgot to take Melatonin last night, so I slept well but not nearly long enough.)

Activity
Walk: Jude and I strutted 4 miles around the lake at 6:30 p.m, and the temperature was still snuggling up to 100F. Shame on you, Summer!

Food
I’ve found my appetite is less ravenous, and I feel better if I eat in a 11-hour window — usually between 9:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m. so I can stop eating about 2-3 hours before going to bed — and don’t snack between meals or before bed. Because I’m dealing with my thyroid experiment, I’m measuring and tracking my food right now. I aim for 40% fat, 30% protein, 30% carbs.

Breakfast, 6:30 a.m.
4 ounces grass-fed stew meat + 2 cups cabbage + 1/2 cup sweet potatoes + 1 teaspoon coconut oil + Tsardust Memories
1/3 cup raspberries

Lunch, 3:00 p.m. — Sap’s Thai
Feast!
lettuce wraps w/ dried shrimp, coconut, ginger, and lime
tod mun chicken
yum green beans (green beans with chicken, coconut cream, shredded coconut)
beef coconut curry

Dinner, 9:30 p.m.
hard-boiled egg
1/2 cup blueberries
We were still so satisfied from lunch, we didn’t have an official dinner. That’s right! Jude came to see me, and I didn’t even cook for her on the first day. Bad Mel!

    O.m.g 100F it’s really hot. I was in Croatia last month and it was 100-113F I could hardly move at all. So well done walking 4 miles. I made your chocolate chilli today, really yummi.

    Hi Mel!

    I’ve been a reader of your blog for a while (love it!) and have been reading your daily updates on the Whole30. I noticed that you often eat vegetables from the Brassica family (cabbage, broccoli etc…) have you read any of the research suggesting these vegetables suppress thyroid function? Just a thought :)

      Thank you for looking out for me! It’s true that those vegetables are not a good choice for most people with hypothyroidism, especially when eaten raw. But because I have NO thyroid, it’s OK for me to eat them (I’m pretty sure, based on my research).

      According to Chris Kresser, it’s a good idea to cook those veggies very well, so I always eat them cooked (and quite soft) just in case. He also recommends that the cooking water be tossed, rather than eaten, so soups with those veggies shouldn’t use the vegetable cooking water.

    hi again,
    i forgot to tell you, since you like book about or centered around the holocaust- I am halfway done with the girl in the green sweater-thx for the recommendation- Read Sarah’s Key if you haven’t. VERY good. the story is fiction-although from what i have read probably did happen to some, sadly- but the story centers around the Vel d’hiv which is when the french govt. participated in roounding up french jews and sending them to camps. it is also a movie which i did watch after reading the book. it was well done. The book is better. just a recommendation in case you haven’t read it. you will need tissues.

    I absolutely love the original version of this song, so I commend you both on your good taste. :) And as an former Austinite now residing in Australia, I wonder if Jude is from Melbourne? It would make for a small world. Glad you gals are having a fabulous time! And I can’t stop thank you enough with every foodgasmic recipe I make from Well Fed. It’s a Godsend! Keep up the amazing work!
