I’m very tired today. Like, “slept through my alarm and barely got to the gym on time” tired… and “got back in bed after my shower and fell asleep like I was drugged” tired. See also: fatigued, sleepy, worn out, weary, droopy, and pooped.
I am also clumsy… So far this morning, I’ve walked into the elevator door frame, hooked my bag strap around a doorknob which ricocheted me backward into the house, and barked my elbow on the kitchen cabinet. This is not an auspicious start.
I’m also ravenous. I had a snack between breakfast and my commute to the corporate overlords’ lair, and right now, I’m eating another snack that was ear-marked for an hour from now.
And, finally, my thoughts are jumbled. So, in no particular order, here are some things on my mind that seem worth sharing.
1. Today was the first o’ the month assessments and our benchmark was Fight Gone Bad. I scored exactly the same as I did in December: 220. Meh.
2. The pants I wore hiking on Saturday were too big, unflattering, and lack pockets: triple-FAIL. I just ordered capris from RailRiders. Bonita wore a pair on our trek, and they dried in about 10 minutes after her up-to-the-waist splash in the river.
3. This is an excellent post at Fitness Spotlight that lists practical advice about training and eating. For example: “Never listen to any advertising telling you what is healthy, as they are just trying to sell you something.” and “Diet is 85% of where results come from for muscle and fat loss. Many don’t focus here enough.” Read the whole post.
4. Dave and I are going to the Staple independent media expo on Saturday to geek out with the other indie comics/zine nerds. I know we live in the age of blogs, but I miss a well-written, handcrafted zine. It felt so much more personal to hold it and know the author had probably stapled the pages together herself.
5. Here’s a pretty compelling history of America’s food habits over the last century. “How did we in 10 decades go from gruel to Starbucks?… This century, more than any other, has been one of staggering transformation. Our population has mushroomed by almost 200 million since 1900. Passenger travel zoomed from the horse to the supersonic. Computers accomplish in hours what took a turn-of-the-century factory crew days. And the foods we’ve eaten have taken an equally remarkable journey.”
6. This is one of my favorite blog finds: Feasting on Art. Blogger Megan Fizell selects a work of art, then cooks a recipe inspired by the visual masterpiece… like this take on Van Gogh’s The Potato Eaters. That’s tasty business!
7. Dave and I are going to Prague and Berlin next September for almost three weeks! Our plans include CrossFit and running everywhere we go – but probably not “running” as badass as seen in the video below. (I do, however, promise to jump on some stuff, but I will probably not be three stories above the sidewalk. I can also guarantee there will be no flips involved; a handstand is a remote possibility.) Keep watching all the way through the video; the sideways aerial cartwheels down the stairs are beautiful grace in action.
